Give your cloud apps SPACE to move!
SPACE is an open initiative to create a cloud portability standard. Its aim is to enable companies, institutions and citizens to change cloud provider without technical or economic dependency or blockage.
Against a backdrop of geopolitical tensions, increasing regulation (RGPD, Data Act, AI Act) and market concentration between a few dominant players, the ability to migrate applications and data easily is becoming a key condition for digital sovereignty.
SPACE offers a minimal, open and extensible technical foundation, covering 80% of standard requirements: security, execution, data and communication. This standard will be published as open source and co-constructed with alternative clouds, technical contributors, enterprise users and public institutions.
A neutral, open portability standard is, in our view, the only way to give businesses the confidence to try out new clouds without fear of lock-in – a fear that doesn’t exist when faced with the three American giants, who are reputed to be infallible – and, in this way, to re-launch healthy competition between European suppliers, enabling the emergence of a truly sovereign cloud ecosystem.
